Good Afternoon, This is Coleman Community Schools' Superintendent, Jen McCormack.  Happy Labor Day Weekend! Thank you all for a great start to the school year with in-person and online students participating and signing in on time, connecting with us and following the rules for safety. We've been really impressed and let's keep that up this coming week. The students and staff faired far better than our tents placed at the two buildings for outdoor lessons, but we are working to resolve that issue, too. We really appreciate having you back.  I wanted to share with you a couple pieces of great news that you may have already heard a little bit about. This past Wednesday, the USDA announced an extension of federal food and nutrition waivers through December 31, or when funding runs out, whichever comes first. While our Elementary students were already receiving FREE breakfast and lunch through our qualified CEP program, Jr./Sr. High students were only receiving a free breakfast. Due to this extension, ALL K-12 students, both online and in-person will be provided with a FREE breakfast AND lunch during this extension. Online students need to sign up at the link already provided to parents. It will be HIGHLY important that all families fill out the Household Report/Free &Reduced Application. When we do revert back to our regular school lunch program, your students Free and Reduced status based on these forms, will be in effect again. The Title funding the school receives from the applications are very important. Title provides funding for paraprofessionals, classroom books, training, tech devices, tech support,field trips, homeless student support and more on an annual basis. If you have not yet sent in your application/household report, please do so now. We want to ensure that your student is being charged accordingly when we go back to our regular program and that we continue to receive as much Title funding as possible to support our students and their programs. With regard to Athletics, on Friday, Executive Order 2020-176 was released late in the day allowing competition to begin immediately, allowing volleyball to begin indoors and football to begin starting this coming week. All football teams will be placed in the first round of playoffs per MHSAA. With this announcement, strict guidelines for spectators and safety are in place. Only two (2) spectators will be allowed per participant and Coleman Schools will be requiring participants list those people prior to events, both home and away. Social distancing will be expected as well as masks when spectators are in close contact (within 6 ft.) and indoors. Scheduling and other details are in progress as area Athletic Directors meet and will be released as we have them. This is exciting news for our student athletes and the community! We are working to determine if rules will be relaxed and we are able to Livestream the games to you. More to come on that.  While football will resume, we are postponing Homecoming at this time due to the fact that all Homecoming activities would not likely be able to happen at this time under the orders. Also, in order to ensure cleanliness and emphasize safety for our district and visiting student athletes, district athletic facilities will still remain closed to outside organizations.  Please watch for more detail on the rules we will need to follow in order to continue athletics for our students and thanks in advance for your working with us on this.  Finally, for those who are transported on district buses, please keep in mind that student drop-off/pick-up is limited to only custodial/guardian stops that you have established for your child with the Transportation Department and Mr. Cowell. Students are only allowed to ride to custodial/guardian stops and not to  friends' homes. This is especially important this year as we are reducing the co-mingling of students on buses during the pandemic and ensuring we can contact trace should there be an issue. Jr./Sr. High In-Person "A Day in the Life" for grades 7-12 includes information on what time the school doors open, breakfast and more for our students. CTE students: Meet at the high school for our 1/2 day on Monday. The CTE classes do not start until Tuesday, so we'll provide details Monday. 

From Mr. Cowell, Transportation Director: He and staff will be working all weekend to finalize some of the routes and make contacts with families. Thank you for your patience as this is a very different year for everything, including changes to those who are doing online learning vs. in person which also impacts transportation routes when things changes. Sending out a big WELCOME a couple of people! To Ms. Gabriella Herren who will be our American Sign Language (ASL) teacher contracted with Clare. Ms. Herren will be here 2 hours a day at the Jr./Sr. High. We wish Heather Woodworth all our best and we're excited to have Gabriella supporting this program for our ASL 1 and 2 students.  Also, thank you to Ms. Jessi Spry for being here. We have brought Ms. Spry in while Mr. Francis is out on a leave. Ms. Spry is strong in relationship-building, agriscience and biology knowledge and we are lucky to have her with us. Please help make them both feel welcome.

FOR K-6 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS Good Morning, We are excited to begin working with our students again, both in-person and online!  The Virtual/Online Open House for all K-12 students and parents is this evening, August 26th. For the Elementary, it will take place online from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  As mentioned in earlier information posted, you will need a Gmail account to access the Google Meet with any of your child's teachers. You can set this up for free in minutes by going to www.gmail.com and click on the link or button that says "Create Account".  You can also sign on with your child's school Gmail account if you would prefer.  You can find your Elementary child's teacher by going into your e-mail AFTER 10:00 a.m. this morning to see the message that has been sent from the school. It will be sent to the email that you provided to the school office and is attached to your Parent Connect account or your child's information in the office. After 10:00 a.m. you can also go to the front exterior door of the Elementary to look at the lists. Orientation night for incoming, in-person 7th graders is this coming week Wednesday, August 26th, at the Jr./Sr. High School main entrance. Students will receive their class schedule, their locker assignment, and tour the building & classrooms according to the following schedule: 7:30 PM last name Adsit through D'Artagnan 7:45 PM last name Fisher through Kenyon 8:00 PM last name Lattimer through Moore 8:15 PM last name Pegorch through Young We are limited as to how many people may be in the building, so we ask you to please bring your child to the Jr./Sr. High School at the times listed according to your last name.  The health and safety of your child is our utmost concern, and we will continue to do all we can to maintain the appropriate level of safety during the COVID pandemic.  Therefore, although parents will not be allowed into the building, administration & faculty will be on hand to help answer any additional questions or concerns. On Monday, August 24th, all school offices will be closed as the entire Coleman Schools' staff will be involved in various Health and Safety trainings throughout the day including with the Health Department, County Sheriff and Liaison Officers, reviewing our Return to School Plan, etc. It is important that everyone is involved to provide the best and most consistent plan for our students and families. Parent of students K-12 enrolled in the Online Learning Academy will be receiving an email later today with information about the Virtual/Online Orientation specifically for Online Learning Academy students. These Orientations will take place on August 27th and you will have 2 options for times to attend online.

Good Morning! This message is for incoming Kindergarten students/parents/guardians only.  As you likely already know, Ms. Moore and Mrs. Staley are having an in-person Orientation for Kindergarten students on Wed., August 26th from 2-5:00 p.m., by appointment only. They have sent out a Sign-Up Genius link to the students in their classrooms for those we have emails for. If you have not already signed up, please contact the Main Elementary Office to find out who your child's teacher is and to do so. You must have been signed up to attend.  This will be for parents and students only and all must wear a mask and enter by the exterior door of the teachers' classroom, which will be marked. Sessions will be 15 minutes long for each family to ensure everyone has time with the teacher and provide social distancing of families.
